Robotics Week Nancy

Humanoids 2024 conference

The IEEE-RAS 2024 international conference on humanoid robots, more commonly known as Humanoids 2024will take place in Nancy, France, from November 22 to November 24, 2024.
The conference will reward the best international projects in the field.
A large exhibition, on the first floor of the Centre Prouvé, will host numerous companies, startups, academic and research institutions, showcasing the latest advances in robotics and AI.
A locomotion competition in which humanoid robots will have to overcome obstacles will also be organized.

euROBIN and the European robotics competition

The European robotics competition will run from Monday November 25 to Thursday November 28.
It follows in the footsteps of those organized as part of the European project euROBIN, the European network of excellence in robotics and artificial intelligence.
This EU-funded event is a cooperative competition (“coopetition”) between the 32 project partners, including European research teams and companies. euROBIN hopes to create a more sustainable and inclusive environment in which robots and artificial intelligence can perform applied tasks in a human environment.
The euROBIN coopetition will offer participants three main areas of research, each associated with a specific challenge.

  • The first challenge is an industrial one, involving the manipulation of objects by a robotic arm.
Such a challenge could be illustrated by the manipulation of a voltmeter to measure a voltage in a box.
  • The second challenge is called “outdoor”.
Its aim is to test the capabilities of drones and legged robots in an outdoor environment.
  • The final challenge is to develop robots capable of interacting in domestic environments.
To achieve this, objectives such as opening a refrigerator or placing an object in a drawer will be required.

Sign up for workshops for the general public!

Saturday, November 23 and Sunday, November 24

  • Registration for visits to the exhibition hall and robotics competition

Registration is required for 30-minute visits to the Prouvé Convention Center on the weekend of November 23 and 24, at the following times: 9:00 am to 9:40 am / 9:50 am to 10:30 am / 11:00 am to 11:40 am / 11:50 am to 12:30 pm / 1:30 pm to 2:10 pm / 2:20 pm to 3 pm / 3:30 pm to 4:10 pm / 4:20 pm to 5 pm.
These visits will enable visitors to discover the various stands of robotics institutes and companies, and to observe the robotics competition zone.
Dozens of robots will be on display.
Scientists will accompany each group and comment on the visit.
Tours will be given in French, in groups of up to 20 people.
They are free, but registration is required. Registration link to reserve your place for a visit on Saturday, November 23: click here!

  • Registration for children’s robotics workshops

That same weekend, robotics workshops for children aged 6 to 14 will be offered by the association Codeurs en Herbe at a cost of 3 euros per child.
Each workshop will last 1h30.
During these “discovery” sessions, children will learn about programming and robotics by building and coding small robots in Scratch.
The workshops will take place at Nancy’s Centre Prouvé.
The aim of Codeurs en Herbe is to demystify digital technology and help children understand the world of tomorrow.
Their workshops are designed to encourage children aged 6 to 14 to explore many facets of the digital world.

Workshop - Codeurs en Herbe

Junior Coders

Slots for children aged 6 to 8 will be from 9am to 10:30am or from 1pm to 2:30pm.
Slots for children aged 9 to 14 will be from 10.40 a.m. to 12.10 p.m. or from 2.40 p.m. to 4.10 p.m. Register your child for a Coder workshop on Saturday November 23 or Sunday November 24.

Monday, November 25

  • Registration for Lionel Obadia’s conference Robot society, social robots, robots in society?

Lionel Obadia, Professor of Anthropology at the University of Lyon 2, will present the conference ” Robot society, social robots, robots in society? “on Monday November 25, at 7:15pm, in the Cuénot amphitheater of the Nancy Aquarium Museum (13 rue Godron, Nancy).  Conference presentation: With the robotic revolution underway, much has been said, said again, debated and re-discussed about the place of robots in the midst of humans, the reasons, modalities and impacts of this “robotization” of the world, the type of tasks that behavioral machines should perform, the relationships they should maintain with the men and women around them, the beliefs and ideas they arouse in the latter… Far from following the clear line of an evolution that considers that humans and their machines will necessarily end up “making society” together, this conference will provide an opportunity, on the basis of studies carried out personally and a review of the literature on social robots and technocultural imaginaries, to take stock of the major issues linked to robots in human societies, by asking the question of their usefulness, but also of their desirability and their uses, and, consequently, of their “social” or “socializing” character.

This event is free, but registration is mandatory!
The reception will start at 6:30pm and the conference will begin at 7:15pm.
Registration link to reserve your place at the conference.

Activities for schools

From Friday 22nd to Thursday 28th, a conference, a projection-debate, robotics workshops, tours of the competition zone hall and performances of the scientific play GaroutzIA will be organized for schools. The full program for schools is available online.
